I’m sure you’ve heard the saying ‘We all have a dark side’ and as much as we’d like to deny it, we all know it’s true. The societies we inhabit keep most of our lurid feelings in check but those impulses we share never truly go away.
Within The Ruins are a progressive deathcore act from Massachusetts and their latest visual offering “Beautiful Agony” appears to be a diabolical study of relationships.
Part narrative, part performance, the story unfolds at the perfect pace. The music accommodates the plot with an unnerving virtue, delving deeper and deeper into the dark underbelly of human nature.
This video reminds me of an Eli Roth movie, a man falls for a woman and ends up getting more than he bargained for. They both dress for the occasion and play their game but we know those animalist undertones have fueled a fire that can only end in catastrophe. I especially like the part where the woman pours a bottle of pills down the helpless man’s throat. The psychedelic trip he’s forced to embark on is worthy of repeat viewings.
Within The Ruins have shown us the beauty in agony. This titillating video is truly a dance with the macabre. It’s a sexy urban legend come to life. Check out “Beautiful Agony” and see for yourself where metal, lust and dementia collide! \m/
