The slow motion visual effects are nothing short of demonic. Strobe lights flashing while infernal voices spew black blood!

Thy Art Is Murder is a deathcore act you should know. Hailing from Australia, the band has been active since 2006. They really started to gain some worldwide notoriety after releasing their third album Holy War, back in 2015. That record is a true auditory rape on the eardrums. I saw the band perform this material live during Mayhem Festival (2015) and did a short interview with drummer Lee Stanton. That’s when I became a huge Thy Art Is Murder fan.

Now, Thy Art Is Murder has returned with their fourth full length effort, Dear Desolation, made available earlier this month via Nuclear Blast Records. “Puppet Master” is the band’s third visual offering for the new record (“Slaves Beyond Death” & “The Son of Misery”).

This is a video of symbolism unbound. A performance offering reminiscent of The Last of Christ Temptation meets Hellraiser! The slow motion visual effects are nothing short of demonic. Strobe lights flashing while infernal voices spew black blood! Are these really the irrational words of a madman? The message seems all too clear, religion is the chain that chokes us all! Vocalist CJ McMahon is strung up on a cross made of chains. The band wears T-shirts brandishing the words: Cruel World. Religious characters prance around with sayings like “Terror” and “Forever” written on their bodies. Depictions of this nature are a solid strike at the root of this planet’s biggest problem, religion. Our beliefs should never overshadow humanity or dampen common sense.

At just over three minutes this video really kicks your ass! I’ve heard a few people complain about the group’s sound, saying Thy Art Is Murder has adopted ‘more of a death metal style’ and I say so what? I welcome this direction. Holy War is a deathcore masterpiece. Thy Art Is Murder is wise to not try and top it. Anything aside from a new direction would be considered redundancy. The band looks rejuvenated in these visuals. Their sound, style and execution all appear flawless. Check out Thy Art Is Murder’s “Puppet Master” and break the chains of metal mediocrity holding down you! \m/
