I believe the intention of this music video is not to tantalize us visually but to prove The Haunted isn’t going anywhere.
Formed after the initial demise of death metal legends At The Gates, I’ve always appreciated The Haunted. Their frenzied ‘Gothenburg Attack’ is a superb contrast to the ‘buzz saw’ sound Swedish death metal is typically known for.
Although active since 1996, The Haunted have more or less been flying under the radar outside their homeland but I believe that may be about to change. Their latest effort, Strength In Numbers, is due out August 25th via Century Media Records and it appears to be their best effort in years.
“Spark” is the second music video (“Brute Force”) released in conjunction of the upcoming effort. This is largely a performance video with some clever effects thrown in. The superimposed fire is the perfect addition. I like how the flames seem to coincide with the lyrics. The word ‘Burn’ is an obvious trigger. The old school microphone used by vocalist Marco Aro is also really cool. He looks intimidating palming it in his hand, a wild man ready to unleash a vocal payload.
I believe the intention of this music video is not to tantalize us visually but to prove The Haunted isn’t going anywhere. If my initial impressions of this music are any indication of what The Haunted has in store, diehard fans should be more than pleased. “Spark” has a more abrasive feel than anything done on Exit Wounds and Marco seemingly attacks his vocals with a renewed force. He adds an unfathomable amount of aggression into the groove. Dare I say this, is the follow-up to One Kill Wonder everyone has been waiting for?
Check out these new visuals by The Haunted and let it be the spark that sets a fire in you! \m/
