There was a time when party anthems ruled the airwaves. Life was about getting drunk, getting high and getting laid, not shooting up your high school.
Sometimes I think American metal has become too extreme. After grunge killed glam, the musical landscape became depressing and angry. We’ve been stuck in that rut ever since.
Things weren’t always like that. There was a time when metal in the USA wasn’t only about blood, fire and death, it was about having fun. There was a time when party anthems ruled the airwaves. Life was about getting drunk, getting high and getting laid, not shooting up your high school.
I wish we could go back to those carefree times and now we can through the music of Finland’s Santa Cruz! Santa Cruz is from Helsinki, Finland. The band has been active since 2007 and plays a high octane carefree style of metal you do not want to miss. The band released a new album last year entitled, Bad Blood Rising.
The video for “Young Blood Rising” is a performance offering showing the band hitting on all cylinders. The laid-back grove of this hard rocking act is highly contagious, it’s hard not to get caught up in their feel good vibe.
Now, here’s the bad news. I just got into this band and recently found out they appear to be experiencing some inner turmoil. On March 18th, 2018 Santa Cruz used social media to announce the cancellation of their upcoming U.S. tour as well as the departure of Johnny, Middy, and Taz. This statement leaves the band’s future in doubt.
Hopefully, the group works out these issues and continues to shine. I for one could use some more fist pumping metal. Check out this video by Santa Cruz and let your blood rise. \m/
