The calming affect of this video is like a lucid dream, a moment when you are truly comfortable with life and then this paradise is lost.

Paradise Lost is a Gothic metal band from England active since 1988. They are the undisputed pioneers of doom-laden death metal.

The devastating compositions of vocalist Nick Holmes and guitarist Greg Mackintosh have kept the band in the spotlight. An unrivaled career that has spanned 15 full length records. Nuclear Blast just released the group’s 16th studio album, Obsidian, on May 15th, 2020. A new music video for the song “Darker Thoughts” has just been unveiled to hype the effort.

I’ve been a fan of Paradise Lost since 1992. I purchased Shades Of God and never looked back. In my mind they are a progressive band which has made it a point to explore misery. This new song and accompanying video are just what you’d expect.

The calming affect of this video is like a lucid dream, a moment when you are truly comfortable with life and then this paradise is lost. Captivating backdrops of an open world are at the forefront of the visuals. The kaleidoscope visions are memorizing, the landscape and colors make this desolation all the more depressing. The somber tone of this song is perfect. A blend of all the styles previously explored by Paradise Lost. This is a band in top form. It’s astonishing to show this much diversity so late in one’s career, a claim few artists can make.

Paradise Lost never ceases to amaze. Whenever you think you have them pegged, they surprise with something new. They are the indisputable masters of atmosphere, a key ingredient which many bands of today are missing. A brutal combination of harmony, despair and elegance. Check out this new video by Paradise Lost and let their dark thoughts enlighten you! \m/
