There’s so much animated gore, zombies are killed with toilet plungers and decapitated with guitars!
Death metal was born with an ultra-serious vibe. A workingman’s brand of music where murder and mayhem will always have a coldly sober tone. An unforgiving expression of aggression.
Obituary are without a doubt a cornerstone of this music. They’ve been pummeling crowds since 1988 with their groove laden style of death metal. Their name is as brutally final as the music it represents. That being said, it’s refreshing to see a morbidly comedic video from a band so revered. Obituary’s latest, “Ten Thousand Ways to Die”, is the first visual offering for the new self-titled record, released earlier this month via Relapse Records.
In the vein of last year’s animated effort for the song “Violence”, this cartoon depicts Obituary attending a sold out Nasty Savage concert that gets overrun by flesh eating zombies! This video has massive replay ability, I’ve seen it over a dozen times myself. Is that Glen Benton standing at the bar when they first hit the venue? Is Stephen King managing the soundboard? How about Hopped in Half Ale? Glad that bottle didn’t get broken!
There’s so much animated gore, zombies are killed with toilet plungers and decapitated with guitars! Some even get their heads burnt with acid by an alien watering plants! The best part of the video is the mock Michael Jackson “Thriller” dance during the guitar solo. Even Michael himself makes an appearance and the look on the band’s face is hilarious. Lemmy coming out of a cloud and magically providing the band with instruments is truly priceless.
The music is the trademark Obituary attack in all its greatness. A pioneering act who continues to deliver quality death metal.
