Macabre are legendary innovators in this genre and it’s great to see them breathing some new life into these classic tracks.
You might not know it but the murderous bastards of death and grind have been on a roll lately. The ruinous trio known as Macabre have released three videos in the past six months! New to their visual arsenal: A live offering for the song “Zodiac” and two documentary style clips for “Mr. Albert Fish (Were Children Your Favorite Dish?)“ and “Serial Killer”.
Of these three efforts I find the “Serial Killer” video the most noteworthy. The effort opens with horrifying visuals from the movie Henry: A Portrait of a Serial Killer. The featured scene was controversial when it was initially released and the visual impact still remains. I found myself squirming as the murderous conclusion dissolved into the Macabre logo. I knew I was in for a treat.
What follows is a series of unimaginable images of serial killers, morbid works of art, slasher films like Psycho and blood curdling television news footage. As dreary as the subject matter may be, the representation is memorable. Sure, the scenes are shocking but so is the music of Macabre! What better way to address the subject matter of a serial killer like Henry Lee Lucas than to provide actual film stock of the famed murderer in the flesh? The real life images make the enormity of these crimes all the more real for the viewer.
Macabre are legendary innovators in this genre and it’s great to see them breathing some new life into these classic tracks. They’ve made a wise decision working with Madness Maker Films. I can’t wait to see what they release next. \m/
