Kreator is corrupting the masses with their barbarous view of the world and it’s hard not to get caught up in those dire straits with two new visuals hell bent on reinforcing their wickedness.
I love Kreator and I’ve always thought they’ve been underappreciated by North America. Living in the US during thrash metal’s heyday definitely brought the “Big Four” of Teutonic thrash metal (Kreator, Sodom, Destruction & Tankard) to my eardrums. However, my accessibility to that style and those groups was often limited to tape trading and what I could find at my local record store. When you combine that lack of availably with sporadic overseas touring by the groups themselves, it’s easy to understand why the “Teutonic Big Four” never had the commercial success in America they deserved.
Luckily, times are changing. The invention of the internet combined with renewed interest in thrash metal has given these groups a second life. Videos can now be uploaded in a single location then viewed and shared by the globe. Kreator is corrupting the masses with their barbarous view of the world and it’s hard not to get caught up in those dire straits with two new visuals hell bent on reinforcing their wickedness.
“Gods of Violence” is the title track of the forthcoming album due out next month. The video itself appears homage to ancient cult. A time where the line between life and death was mystically open to vile interpretations. The unusual dress and labyrinth style settings as well as the decision to offer these visuals in black and white gives the video a menacingly antiquated feel. It also tones down the nasty throws of violence prevalent throughout the feature. A demonic presence born of fire, leering at blood filled orgies, enjoying the melodic attack of Kreator!
On a side note, I was a bit disappointed the nudity was blurred. With all that blood splashing around those beautiful women should have been visible!
The “Satan Is Real” video has a ‘middle earth’ setting. A time when religion was the only organized structure left in the world. When man came to understand the pleasures of the Devil. We’re treated to some wicked performance shots accompanied by the demonic presence born in the previous visualization. This video is bloody as hell with gory chicken eggs becoming the precursor to a perverted form of mob justice complete with beheadings, hangings even throats being slashed. “Satan is Real” is a brutal follow-up to “Gods of Violence” and will surly garner enough morbid curiosity to please the machine.
Musically Kreator’s attack in these offerings has been refined to the coldhearted precision of a surgeon. Blood, steel and darkness forming an unholy deity who has been satisfying our lust for gore since 1984. Whether you appreciate them musically now or not, every group progresses. The trick is being respectful to the roots that got you there. Kreator is a group still mindful of their pedigree and although they may incorporate elements more diverse than a typical thrasher might expect they always find a way to deliver. Check out “Gods of Violence and “Satan is Real” and worship your Kreator !! \m/
