Like a music video directed by horror legend David Cronenberg, there’s tons of images of televisions warping our minds.
As the Big Four wane, a new breed of thrasher has emerged. Influenced by the masters of old but ready to take their music in a fresh direction, these groups have risen from the depths of the extreme to fill the metallic void.
Havok’s highly anticipated fourth album Conformicide is nearly here and a new video has been released to build the hype. “Intention to Deceive” is a clever shot at modern media coverage. The video opens with a fake news broadcast. The announcer gloats at the use of disinformation. We accept these mistruths daily like mindless livestock. Denied reality, we are forced to accept this hell bent interpretation.
This is a great backdrop for a performance offering. Like a music video directed by horror legend David Cronenberg, there’s tons of images of televisions warping our minds. I especially like the image of the zombified guy stepping on a human brain. The visuals of the band members are also unique. The slow motion shots give the artists a robotic quality and reinforce the warped reality theme. The shots of the guy wearing a head band with the word Lies over his eyes seems to sum up this video best. Suggesting it’s better to see nothing than to see the untruth.
Musically, Havok takes the thrash formula and makes it relevant again. The attack is a slick revitalization of tempo and melody. It is a state-of-the-art interpretation of everything modern thrash has been lacking. The track has a ton of replay ability and so does this video.
