The accompanying music is a brash offering of metal laced with enough intensity to appeal to a wide array of fans within the genre.
Genotype is a band from Chicago and they’ve been around in some form since 2010. “Silence” is the first video offering from their soon to be released album, G3.
The “Silence” video opens with a black liquid reminiscent of the mutagenic pathogen the Engineers use in the Alien films. The shot quickly cuts to a woman lying on a dark floor. Is this the floor of an alien spacecraft? The camera pans over her body slowly. A stylized third party observation gives a strong scientific quality to the visuals. Her eyes open and we see the remnants of a machine!
“Silence” then morphs into a performance video. The band is shown jamming outside of a building. Cuts of the subplot involving the ‘computer woman’ are interwoven within the offering. The vibrating silver pool of liquid has an otherworldly on screen quality. I really appreciated the images of the kids wearing gas masks. It seemed to imply the whole world is toxic. The best part of the video is when the woman seemingly runs into herself! We know a climax to this theme is inevitable. The ending of this video is superb. The black sphere, calling its identical emissaries, they touch the orb and the camera fades to black. Has the mission ended or is this just the beginning?
The accompanying music is a brash offering of metal laced with enough intensity to appeal to a wide array of fans within the genre. The ‘clean vocals’ will undoubtedly expand the Genotype platform, a unique sound that is already growing in leaps and bounds.
Genotype has proven they are a force in the Chicago scene with this latest visual offering. Next stop will be announcing their “Silence” to the world! \m/
