The video ends with a cut of a satisfied crowd cheering the band on. Nothing could be more appropriate for a group shown enjoying what they do.

Firespawn is spreading like the wildfire and I’m surprised that I haven’t felt the heat sooner. A death metal supergroup from Stockholm Sweden established back in 2015. Firespawn is a side project of L.G. Petrov and Victor Brandt of Entombed A.D. as well as Matte Modin (Dark Funeral, Defleshed), Fredrik Folkare (Unleashed, Necrophobic) and Alex Friberg (Necrophobic). The band has already released two full length albums: Shadow Realms (2015) and The Reprobate released back in April via Century Media Records.

“Serpent Of The Ocean” is the first visual offering from the new release and the ‘Return to Roots’ shirt worn by the band seemingly says it all. This is a throwback to the style of death metal that made Sweden famous. A black and white video featuring recording studio visuals and shots from the road. High velocity color clips of the band playing live round out the effort.

This ‘no frills’ approach is just what you’d expect. The band appears to enjoy what they are doing and that enthusiasm is contagious. This is easily the most smiling I’ve seen in a death metal music video. The process of recording and touring can be brutal but Firespawn makes it look fun. The guitar solo towards the end is my favorite part of this effort. The multi-angle shots taken from different concert events takes the music in an infectious direction. Demonstrating how universally accepted the music of Firespawn truly is. The video ends with a cut of a satisfied crowd cheering the band on. Nothing could be more appropriate for a group shown enjoying what they do.

In an age where blood and guts are the norm. A group willing to show the ‘lighter side’ of death metal is refreshing. Check out “Serpent Of The Ocean” and watch Firespawn ignite the turbulent seas! \m/
