I really appreciate death metal acts who are willing to move into more progressive waters. This type of creativity is really incomparable in today’s market and will surely breathe some new life into the genre.

Women fronted metal is more than a trend. This development will undoubtedly open doors. The spotlight will shine but what will the product be?

Dehydrated is from Siberia, Russia. The group has been active since 2008 and they have a brutality unleashes the beast appeal. “Sickness” is a single off the band’s 2015 effort, Awake In Era.

The visuals in “Sickness” are as complex as the music. Normally I’m able to figure a video out quickly but I’ve seen this one over a dozen times now and I’m still stumped. Perhaps that’s the point. My best guess is “Sickness” is a depiction of an internal conflict within oneself. Everyone in this offering seems to have a flip side. We see a happy couple one second and a physically abusive one the next. The main character appears live normally then turns to cigarettes and alcohol. She battles with herself and it’s never clear who actually wins. My favorite part of the video is towards the opening. The family, surrounded by fog, waves to a man whose head appears to turn into a cloud of black smoke!

The music is progressive death metal and it carries a very catchy melody that stays with you.

Reminiscent of Black Crown Initiate, I really appreciate death metal acts who are willing to move into more progressive waters. This type of creativity is really incomparable in today’s market and will surely breathe some new life into the genre.

“Sickness” is a complicated offering that will undoubtedly bring more fans into the fold. This video is scorching, just don’t watch it too many times and end up Dehydrated! \m/
