Black Dreams’ new video is a murderously psychedelic masterpiece. A nightmare of vile intentions and twisted faith.
Dreams have always fascinated me. Many consider them expressions of our deepest fears and desires or perhaps a way of resolving deep seeded conflicts within one’s self. Surprisingly, the emotions we experience in dreams are predominately negative. Anxiety is number one followed closely by abandonment, anger and fear. These ‘black dreams’ make up the nightmares floating in our subconscious.
Black Dreams is from Finland and they’ve been active since 2015. The band plays a classic style of heavy metal featuring strong gothic and doom metal influences.
The music video for “My Hell” is like an M.C. Escher painting come to life. A spinning sphere ripe with a complex array of colors. White and a blue that appears almost grey then later turns to black before morphing into a white and a dirty blood red. The mirror quality of these images creates an other worldly feeling to the visuals. Multi-layers of transparent figures trail along like the ones you would see on LSD. My favorite part of the video are the shots of the guy wearing a Slayer shirt and a gorilla mask screaming into a megaphone. If there is a hell that image defiantly belongs there. There’s a bit of mystery to the plot which gives it a bit of replay ability. We think the killer is man in a leather mask brandishing an ax but the end of the offering features a sequence with a woman holding a scythe. It’s almost like the hypothetical killer held inside all of us meets one who has no such inhibitions. The meeting is a spark but where that revelation leads we’ll never know.
