Bearing witness to this brutal musical execution is what makes this video great.
I’m always on the lookout for new music. As part of the MTV generation, YouTube has become my preferred choice for these media explorations. It’s like a stylized version of Headbanger’s Ball but one can control the content and virility.
Baest is a death metal act from Denmark. Established in 2015. The band has already released two full length albums and an EP. A new effort entitled, Necro Sapiens, is set to hit the streets on March 5th, 2021 via CenturyMedia Records.
Bands like Baest give me hope for the future of death metal. I randomly clicked on “Genesis” expecting a thrash band (based on their appearance) but got so much more. “Genesis” is a performance offering of a group playing death metal. Bearing witness to this brutal musical execution is what makes this video great. The music highlights Baest’s variety and creativity but this band is crafty enough to leave out the modern ‘core elements’ and ‘technical overdoses’. The tendencies which typically turn off followers of old school death metal. Baest vocalist, Simon Olsen, has a guttural delivery that is hard to place. Imagine L-G Petrov (Entombed A.D.), Chris Reifert (Autopsy), Mikael Akerfeldt (Bloodbath) and David Vincent (Morbid Angel) all locked in a room, with butcher knives, fighting it out!
It was 1991 again for a few minutes and I’m ready to hear more. Check out “Genesis” by Baest and let their classic vibe resurrect the old school for you! \m/
