A satisfying release with more twist and turns than a demonic roller coaster. The ease in which the band executes shows they are coming into their own performing this a-typical style of metal.
The Mound Builders are building themselves a place in the metal scene. Established back in 2008, this quartet from Lafayette, Indiana are truly deserving of all the praise heaped upon them.
The band plays a pugnacious version of sludge/stoner metal. With no ties to a specific song structure, the tempo shifts make this music highly addictive for the listener. When you add a delivery as sticky as any resin, you have a sound that cannot be easily brushed away.
The Mound Builders released their debut, Strangers in a Strange Land, back in 2011. An EP (Wabash War Machine) and a pair of split efforts (Featuring Bo Jackson 5 & Pale Horseman) make up the band’s current discography. Now, the group has returned with a new self-titled offering due out this January (18th ) via Failure Records and Tapes.
A satisfying release with more twist and turns than a demonic roller coaster. The ease in which the band executes shows they are coming into their own performing this a-typical style of metal. Highlight tracks for me are: “Torchbearer”, “Hair of the Dogma”, “Acid Slugs”, “Regolith” and “Vanished Frontier”.
The Mound Builders are worthy of your eardrums. I urge you to check out this latest release. Let this multi-layered attack build a new mound of metal for you! \m/
