The clean vocals enhance the overall attack and give the presentation a layer of complexity seldom heard in today’s metal.

Creativity has never been a problem for metal. This musical genre has re-invented itself more times than its micro-genres have splintered. A metallic timber whose branches of steel are forever growing.

Sludgehammer is Melodic Death Metal from Canada. Active since 2013, this act has found a way to forge old and new styles into a modern formula. Believe it or not, the band is independent. So far, they’ve self-released an EP (Organ Harvester -2014) and full-length debut (The Fallen Sun – 2016). Their sophomore effort, Antechamber, was released digitally this April.

Innovative and electrifying, the music is an unmerciful blitzkrieg. Highly melodic, this is progression meeting a groovy aggression. The clean vocals enhance the overall attack and give the presentation a layer of complexity seldom heard in today’s metal. Highlight tracks for me are: “No Control”, “Climatic Death”, “Balance of Life”, “The Long Road”, “Eternal Darkness” and “Line ‘Em Up”.

Sludgehammer has discovered a new way to beat you down. Check out Antechamber and let the slimy attack of these menacing Canadians clobber you! \m/
