The group’s sophomore effort The Evolution Of Anger was released on July 21st via Victory Records and it does more than just meet the expectations set forth with Hope Within Hatred, it obliterates them.

A debut album is often a bands strongest effort. These are the songs an act has lived with since their inception. If a group makes a splash and doesn’t fade it’s because they had the strength to follow-up a highly acclaimed debut effort.

Shattered Sun is from Texas and they’ve been active since 2005. The group’s sophomore offering The Evolution Of Anger was released on July 21st via Victory Records and it does more than just meet the expectations set forth with Hope Within Hatred, it obliterates them.

What really impresses me about Shattered Sun and The Evolution Of Anger is the fact that the band didn’t stray too far from their roots. They simply expanded on what has proved to be a successful formula. The essence of their first recording plays a prominent part in this follow-up. Songs like “Victory Or Death” (Hope Within Hatred) and “Declassified” (Evolution Of Anger), share a comparable guitar driven vibe. There are many recognizable phrases and speech patterns throughout the release. This does more than just give Shattered Sun an incredible distinction, it builds on a maturity level that becomes more evident with subsequent listens.

Lyrics have always been a strength for Shattered Sun and that trend continues with Evolution Of Anger.  Vocalist Marcos Leal is a master at tapping into his emotions and he sings more to that strength with this release. His growls have more emphasis this time around and the solid backing vocals take his delivery to the next level. Highlight tracks for me are: “Keep Your Eyes Shut”, “Blame”, “Declassified”, “Burn It Down”, “Terminal” and “Hope Dies”.

Shattered Sun have evolved their anger and delivered a successful sophomore effort. Check out this amazing release and witness this furious progression for yourself! \m/
