The group incorporates a lot of different sounds and styles into this structure to create a modern version of a well worn attack.
A successful band is both original and identifiable. More than a gimmick, this is a revelation of skill and exhibition of craft. Enduring anthems enhance reputations and perpetuate longevity.
ScreamKing, established in 2011, is a promising act from Indiana. Their sophomore effort, Tyranny of the Sea, is a maritime journey into insanity!
The framework of this onslaught is traditional heavy metal with strong power metal tendencies. The group incorporates a lot of different sounds and styles into this structure to create a modern version of a well worn attack.
Tyranny of the Sea is a riff monster. This record is filled with lots of great headbanging melodies and ambitious solos. Joe Lawson’s vocals definitely have a Savatage meets Helstar quality to them. A solid strike that’s not afraid to let it all out. Highlight tracks for me are: “I am a Viking”, “Instrument of Death”, “War Horse”, “Embrace The Hate” and “Tyranny of the Sea”.
If there is a drawback to ScreamKing it’s in their tempo. Many of the songs are in a mid-tempo range. That’s great for banging your head but after listening to this album from start to finish I felt incomplete. Most of the faster tempo tracks come at the end of the record, giving it a powerful climax but it could have been so much more.
Regardless of its speed, ScreamKing’s latest effort is some stand up fist pumping metal! Check out Tyranny of the Sea and get washed away in the madness known as Scream King !! \m/
