Riffs and vocals reminiscent of Venom, stripped down raw power…if this is unholy shit, ave Satanas! We need more of it!
Hatesong is the side project with DV Karloff of Society 1, showcasing a much more raw and stripped down approach to songwriting … and that’s the way we love it! The four song EP Unholy Shit is a volatile mix of barely-contained primal howl and raw-amped proto-thrash a la Venom, with the urgency and “in your face” attitude of old school hardcore punk.
The feel is very deliberately rough around the edges in the “plug in and crank it” vein of hardcore punk but without missing a beat or any of the usual mishaps that era of music was known for. There are no missed changes, misfired notes, or out of time drums here. Indeed, the rhythm section (which is the entire band – they are a three piece) is spot on the whole way through, almost being able to anticipate where the song will go on a visceral level.
Unholy Shit isn’t without a little fretboard wizardry either, as heard in the solo above on “Hate Crush”. This one especially has a feel very similar to “I Love To Say Fuck” by the Murderdolls and is every bit as irreverent. It truly felt like travelling back in time to hear the sister EP to “Countess Bathory” listening to this band.
Riffs and vocals reminiscent of Venom, stripped down raw power…if this is unholy shit, ave Satanas! We need more of it! Keep kicking ass and keep an eye out for Hatesong! \m/
