If there is a downside to Envy it’s that it’s over too quickly. Like a good joke this Ep features a solid story with a great punchline, the kind you want to tell over and over again.

The single greatest thing about extreme music is that it is universal. Whether it be a black t-shirt, throwing the horns or playing the devil’s cord, if you follow this path you will always be a part of the metal family.

Dirty Jokes are from Jagakarsa, South Jakarta Indonesia. They have been active since 1998 and feature a thrashy style that is ridiculously addictive. These guys are huge fans of crossover thrash/speed metal. The music is like SOD (Stormtroopers of Death) meets Sepultura.

Their debut EP Envy has a strong vibe that cannot be denied. I found myself headbanging from first listen. This inaugural offering consists of four original tracks and a Sepultura cover which features the nine-year-old daughter of guitarist/vocalist Andi Desianto!

The first three tracks are sung in a native tongue but the fourth one “Face The Reality” is sung in English and it rips. All of the songs feature that Captain Crunch kind of madness thrash lovers eat for breakfast. This EP quickly became a part of my daily diet and it still is!

Dirty Jokes has made thrash fun but isn’t that what it should be? \m/
