Like a demented lullaby, this lightens the extremity of the music and allows the group more freedom artistically.
Metal is the evolution of sound and style. Breaking ground, provoking reactions and testing limits. This is more than just recording a riff to revisit later, this is song structuring using a whole new technique. The transformation is now, the line has been drawn and assemblage prepared for the impending metamorphosis.
Darkness Divided is from Texas and has been around since 2011. Their music can be best described as the fusing of extreme and progressive elements with hardcore punk. The group uses clean vocals in their chorus. Like a demented lullaby, this lightens the extremity of the music and allows the group more freedom artistically. These refrains are a great way to demonstrate technical skills. It’s a relationship that pays off in this attack.
The song structures are complex in design. As a result, some tracks have a badgering replay ability. I‘ve had the song “Misery” stuck in my head on and off for a few weeks now. Only blasting the song at a high volume can produce the necessary exorcism. Highlight tracks for me are: “Misery”, “Deceiver”, “The Answer”, “Back Breaker” and “Mirror of Death”.
I’ve come across more than one reference stating Darkness Divided is a ‘Christian metal band’. Religious preference is inconsequential and whether it be it Morbid Angel or Demon Hunter, I don’t listen to metal for its spiritual content. Song lyrics can be inspirational but that interpretation is relative to the individual.
Darkness Divided has hit the mark with their self-titled sophomore effort. This a well put together album featuring a multi-layer of complexity that proper re-visitations will certainly unveil. Check out this effort and don’t let the darkness be a divider for you! \m/
