A masterful collection of musicality packed with mind blowing solos that seem to capture the essence of their work as a whole.
Contrarian is a progressive death metal act from Rochester New York, established back in 2014.
I became interested in this band because many have correlated their sound with that of the true pioneers of this genre, Death. An unfathomable melding of harmony and brutality tied together with melodies that scream old school but firmly keep their time in the present.
I needed to experience this savageness for myself. I was literally salivating when I saw this album was available to review. Their Worm Never Dies hits the streets March 15th via Willowtip Records.
Contrarian has surpassed my expectations with this release. While the correlations to the Florida death metal legends cannot be disputed, this band has a style and feel all its own. A masterful collection of musicality packed with mind blowing solos that seem to capture the essence of their work as a whole. John Lambton’s white worm legend has never seemed more real. Bram Stoker would surely be pleased. Highlight tracks for me are: “Vaskania (The Evil Eye)”, “Exorcism”, “Their Worm Never Dies” and “Whomsoever Worships the Whiteworm”.
Contrarian have found their niche. This is progressive death metal at its finest. Check out Their Worm Never Dies and experience white worm worship for yourself! \m/
