If you like thrashing speedy riffs that are as maliciously rabid as a half-starved zombie driving a Maserati this is your band.
Although I’m a fan of all kinds of metal, I love thrash. Unfortunately, it’s a style that’s been in transition ever since The Big Four progressed into heavy metal territories. The United States has unleashed some great thrash bands these past few years but I haven’t heard much from Europe until now….
Contorsion is a thrash act from Switzerland. Established back in 2004, the group already has two albums under their belt: Solace Through Lies (2010) and Planet Parasite (2014). A new release United Zombie Nations is due out May 26th via Non Stop Music Records.
Good thrash features guitar driven melodies and complex solos which are short and sweet. United Zombie Nations is full of such material. Infectious tones, surges of speed and voracious vocals make up an assemblage of power and might. The slower tracks expose the shortcomings of the group lyrically but to be honest lyrics have never been the focal point of thrash metal. Words can enhance a melody but do nothing to establish identity. Contorsion’s new offering is everything you’d expect from a great thrash act and more. Highlight tracks for me are: “The Plague of Virtuality”, “United Zombie Nations”, “Gone Too Far” and “This Lying Breed”.
United Zombie Nations will pummel your ass! I regret not having heard of Contorsion sooner. I’m exploring their back catalogue as I write this. If you like thrashing speedy riffs that are as maliciously rabid as a half-starved zombie driving a Maserati this is your band. Check out the latest effort by Contorsion and let the zombie nation unite for you! \m/
