I’ve been following the band Suicidal Tendencies since 1987’s Join the Army. Considered a ‘grandfather’ of the ‘Crossover Thrash Movement’ this was the album that really bridged the gap between hardcore punk and thrash metal.

Suicidal followed this effort with three commercially successful offerings: How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can’t Even Smile Today (1988), Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit…Déjà Vu (1989) and Lights…Camera…Revolution! (1990). Shortly after, I lost touch with the band.

Perhaps it was the arrival of death metal but the well-worn formula of Suicidal Tendencies started to sound stale. It didn’t help that the band went through numerous line-up changes and re-recorded previously released material.

I was oblivious to the multiple comebacks and self-induced hiatus. In 2016, the group was again on my radar when Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Grip Inc.) joined the fold. A match made in metal heaven, this appeared to be the perfect landing spot for the famed drummer.

A successful album (World Gone Mad – 2016) and an EP (Get Your Fight On! – 2018) put Suicidal Tendencies back on the map. Another full-length studio effort was just unveiled last September, Still Psycho Punk After All These Years, is now available via Suicidal Records.

A new music video, “All Kinda Crazy” has been released to hype the effort. A performance offering that capitalizes on the live energy of the band. It’s hard not to get caught up in the excitement of a concert setting. Watching people pumping their fists, slam dance and crowd surf is stimulating. It makes me want to attend a Suicidal show right now!
