The guitar melodies are as necessary as the vocals, forming a relentless pace that resonates throughout the entire album.
Punishment 18 Records is on fire. The label has been releasing quality thrash at such an unimaginable pace; it is hard not to think of them as the Combat Records of this age. With an ear for aggression, they are fueling the fire of a musical genre once again on the cutting edge.
Punishment’s latest discovery is a kick ass thrash group from Tuscany called Kinetik. These Italian thrash addicts have been active in some from since 2011. Their debut release, Critical Fallout, is due to hit the streets on May 26th via Punishment 18 Records.
Kinetik features an aggressive vibe that is dramatically compelling. The guitar melodies are as necessary as the vocals, forming a relentless pace that resonates throughout the entire album. The vocals are slightly reminiscent of James Hetfield (Metallica – early) which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you play thrash but what really helps Kinetik are the progressive elements which seemingly emanate a psychedelic complexity, like Destruction on acid, the twisted onslaught brings you to another world. Highlight tracks for me are: “Blood For Money”, “Revenge”, Abyss of Humanity”, “Face Your Dark Side”, “Warped” and “Eymerich”.
Although I initially did not like the production values on this record, I have since come to appreciate its seasoned flavor. Intentional or not, the sound is reminiscent of Sodom (Obsessed by Cruelty) or even Sarcofgo (I.N.R.I). A bizzare echo which adds another dimension to the music.
Kinetik has caught my ear and they will catch yours too. Check out Critical Fallout let this unique style of metal challenge you! \m/
