There is no doubt that the life we lead is important but it is what we are able to leave behind that will be remembered. The sound and style of Fast Eddie Clarke will always be there, waiting for the next metal head to discover.

‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke meant a lot to metal. A British guitarist, he was a member of what is now considered the ‘classic’ Motorhead line up. Along with Lemmy Kilmister and ‘Philthy’ Phil Taylor, the trio went on to record some of the greatest Motorhead albums such as: Overkill, Ace Of Spades and Bomber just to name a few.

Fast Eddie left Motorhead in 1982 and went on to form the band Fastway with bassist Pete Way who’d recently left UFO. Fastway began in 1983 and by 1986 had contributed to the first metal head horror movie. Trick or Treat was a fright fest featuring Gene Simmons (Kiss) and Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath). Fastway provided the soundtrack.

I remember seeing Trick or Treat in the theater, the music added another layer to the Sammi Curr character. He was rock’s chosen warrior and I sought out the soundtrack the very next day.

I devoured all things Fastway after that. The song “Heft!” is a timeless classic that I still jam regularly.

When Fastway ended Clarke continued with some solo efforts but his time as a band member was limited to occasional appearances. Nevertheless, his impact on metal cannot be denied. He was a pivotal player in the development of the music and the groups we will treasure forever.

I cannot imagine a world without “Ace of Spades” or “After Midnight”. This is metal and Eddie Clarke gave it to us.

There is no doubt that the life we lead is important but it is what we are able to leave behind that will be remembered. The sound and style of Fast Eddie Clarke will always be there, waiting for the next metal head to discover. \m/
