Melody equals atmosphere as we slowly advance into a subterranean underworld where violence is the ultimate authority!
Cave Bastard is a band from San Diego, California and the group has been active since 2014. That’s all I knew prior to this review. I was interested in their material because they have the word BASTARD in their name, I thought that was cool.
Cave Bastard plays music in the classic death metal vein but with a primal attack that shakes the core of modern man. If you delve even deeper into this offering you will find it’s like a soundtrack for the barbarous evolution of mankind. Melody equals atmosphere as we slowly advance into a subterranean underworld where violence is the ultimate authority! Highlight tracks for me are: “Throes of the Devourer”, “Massacre Reaction”, “Trapped in a World of Formlessness”, “Neo-Genesis” and “Purity Through Oblivion”.
Although I enjoyed this album tremendously riding in my car, I enjoyed it even more at home. The sounds of a Paleolithic netherworld enhanced by my home stereo, this record has an unidentifiable sequence that traps your attention and buries it in time and space.
Death metal in 2018 is like a giant cesspool of bogus smelling muck. It’s hard to rise out of this shithole of mediocrity but Cave Bastard has done it. With grueling melodies and punishing vocals that are savagely identifiable, The Weak Shall Devour the Earth is a prehistoric treasure waiting to be unearthed by you! Check out this uncivilized release! \m/
